At the 52nd session, the National Assembly Standing Committee gave opinions on explaining, accepting and revising the draft Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Education Law held on December 4, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said:
"The regulation is in the open direction that the Ministry of Education and Training decides on a set of shared textbooks that are unified nationwide. Thus, it allows flexibility between new compilation options or selecting and editing existing sets of books.
There are textbooks that are being taught in general schools, which are used stably by teachers and mostly meet professional requirements.
The currently used sets of books are all approved by the national assessment council, ensuring professional quality. Therefore, compiling a new set of textbooks is a waste of time and money, not to mention affecting teaching and learning that is already stabilized according to the current curriculum and textbooks.
Therefore, unifying a shared textbook set, moving towards free distribution of textbooks, reusing textbooks is necessary but not necessary to invest in compiling a new set of textbooks.
The economical and efficient way is chosen from existing book series.
A set of shared books but must have many ways for students to access a large, open space of knowledge, arousing the desire to explore, and awakening creative thinking.
In the article " compiling a new set of textbooks for shared use or selecting and revising from current ministries" published on December 4, Lao Dong Newspaper analyzed, there were concerns about changing from many sets of books to a set of textbooks and said that the regulation on a set of textbooks could lead to uniformity in thinking, hindering creativity and innovation.
This is something that the Minister of Education and Training needs to consider to make a decision in accordance with the policy of a shared textbook set but not waste and not bring students back to the right way to learn.
In the immediate future, it is necessary to prioritize the option of selecting the best values from existing sets of books to form a shared set.
This is a cost-effective, economical way, taking advantage of the efforts of thousands of teachers and scientists who have contributed to the compilation in the past. This method ensures the stability of the program, avoiding disruption to teachers and students.
Do not think in the old way of compiling classic textbooks, but aim to exploit digital learning resources, creating many paths for students to access knowledge.
Calmness, science and thrift will help policies go in the right direction, unify textbooks, but not in a unified way of thinking.
