The Ministry of Education and Training will organize the free distribution of all textbooks to students in flooded areas.

On November 24, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) reported to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh about the damage caused by floods in the South Central and Central Highlands provinces, along with the support measures that the Ministry is implementing.

Nearly 100 billion VND in damage, about 2,000 schools affected by floods

In recent days, floods in the South Central and Central Highlands provinces have caused severe damage to the education sector. According to the synthesis from localities, floods have killed 04 students, of which Dak Lak has 03 students and Lam Dong has 01 student; Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa and Quang Ngai provinces have not recorded any human losses.

According to statistics, as of noon on November 24, many schools were deeply flooded, had landslides, had damaged fences, teaching equipment, embankments, garages and water supply and drainage systems; trees fell. The total estimated damage in the 5 provinces is 97,537.9 million VND.

Specifically, the damage: VND 28,907 million in Dak Lak, VND 22,624 million in Gia Lai, VND 32,462.3 million in Khanh Hoa, VND 9,344.6 million in Lam Dong and VND 4,200 million in Quang Ngai. Due to the isolated terrain and the water not yet receding, localities are continuing to count the damage.

The damage to textbooks and school supplies was also huge: Quang Ngai had 38,810 sets of textbooks damaged; Dak Lak had 6,340 sets; Gia Lai had 448,202 textbooks damaged and 6,425 sets of learning tools; Lam Dong had 334 sets of textbooks damaged, 405 sets of learning tools and 550 sets of notebooks; Khanh Hoa is continuing to review so there are no data.

Regarding teaching activities: 1,942 schools/school locations had to let students stay home from school due to the impact of floods. As of noon on November 24, 2025, 360 schools have not been able to resume operations, including 290 schools in Dak Lak and 70 schools in Khanh Hoa; while in Gia Lai, Lam Dong and Quang Ngai, teaching has been organized normally.

In the face of the above situation, the Ministry of Education and Training has directed the Departments of Education and Training to urgently review the damage to facilities and teaching equipment, and propose the Provincial People's Committee to allocate funds for repairs. In which, priority is given to using support funds from the Central Government to repair school projects and purchase equipment, helping students return to school soon. The Ministry also requested the mobilization of police forces, military, militia, organizations and people to participate in clearing schools as soon as the water receded.

To ensure that students have enough textbooks, based on the needs reported by provinces and cities, the Ministry of Education and Training will organize the free distribution of all textbooks to students in flooded areas. The Ministry of Education and Training has also directed the Vietnam Education Publishing House and school equipment companies to coordinate with localities to count the number of damaged textbooks for timely support.

Currently, the Vietnam Education Publishing House has prepared 10 million textbooks to provide to students in flooded areas, has basically completed support for Dak Lak province and is continuing to deploy in Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, Quang Ngai and Lam Dong.

Along with that, the Ministry of Education and Training launched a fundraising campaign among all civil servants, public employees, and workers at the Ministry's agencies and affiliated public service units, supporting each affected province with 300 million VND, the total support for the 5 provinces is 1.5 billion VND; supporting families with deceased students with 5 million VND/family, a total of 20 million VND.

During and after the storm, the Ministry of Education and Training maintains regular contact with the Departments of Education and Training through the Zalo group to update the situation and make timely recommendations to international organizations, especially UNICEF Vietnam. UNICEF and the Children's Relief Organization have established an Education Emergency Support Group, deploying support for school supplies, school clothes, drinking water and financial support for households with students; currently supporting drinking water for Gia Lai province.

At the same time, international donors will implement free psychological counseling programs through group support sessions at schools for students affected by natural disasters, especially in Gia Lai, Dak Lak and Lam Dong; teachers will be instructed in flexible teaching methods to help students overcome stress.
