This is a very timely and meaningful appeal from the Standing Committee of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in the context that the people of the North have suffered many losses in terms of human lives and property, as well as facing many immediate difficulties and shortages due to storms and floods.
Gifts - the hearts of union members and workers across the country were promptly and directly handed to people in flood-hit areas by Party Central Committee member and President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang, starting from September 12 in Thai Nguyen.
Because it is a “command from the heart”, in recent days, the call of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has been responded to very quickly and promptly by the Confederations of Labor of provinces and cities across the country and the Central Trade Unions, achieving results beyond expectations. Above all, the participation of the Trade Union organization and union members and workers on this occasion is not simply a voluntary act, “the whole leaves cover the torn leaves” or “the less torn leaves cover the more torn leaves” as the Vietnamese tradition, but also the meaning of compatriots giving back to each other in times of difficulty and hardship.
Yesterday, while calling on union members and workers to respond to the policy of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Mr. Vo Khac Binh, Chairman of the Labor Federation of District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, recalled a memory that made many people tear up.
“When Ho Chi Minh City was heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, our District 7 Labor Union received a lot of goods and materials donated by our compatriots in the North. It was the green squash and pumpkin wrapped in nylon, the rice paper wrapped in two or three layers of paper, with the label “fragile, please handle with care” written on the outside, full of humanity, that gave the union members and laborers in District 7 the courage to overcome difficulties and fear…”.
What is even more touching is that in addition to material support, local trade unions, such as the Nghe An Provincial Federation of Labor, are also very humane when directing units to organize the Mid-Autumn Festival for children on this occasion, skipping cultural activities, singing and dancing, lion and dragon dances... Consider this a spiritual gift to encourage and share with the people and children of the Northern provinces.
Spiritual gifts like those from the Nghe An Provincial Federation of Labor need to be more numerous, not only from the Trade Union organization. Just as calls for support or solidarity are not just the private matter or responsibility of the Trade Union organization, but also require the participation of all other social organizations, to together create a beautiful picture of humanity and the spirit of national solidarity in times of crisis like this!
