According to the Center for Disease Control of Binh Dinh province, at 11:42 p.m. on October 13, Mr. Tran Van T (born in 1973, residing in Vinh Thanh town, Vinh Thanh district) had symptoms of high fever, headache, body aches, and severe cough, so his family took him to the Vinh Thanh District Medical Center for examination.
Here, Mr. T was diagnosed with gastric ulcer/vestibular disorder, bronchitis. By 6:00 p.m. on October 16, Mr. T's prognosis was poor so he was transferred to a higher level.
At 5:40 a.m. on October 17, Mr. T was diagnosed with viral pneumonia by Binh Dinh General Hospital. At 6:00 p.m. on October 17, Mr. T was in a deep coma, on a ventilator; his skin had purple veins, his lungs had few crackles on both sides; his heart rate tended to slow down, and his blood pressure could not be measured. At 6:15 p.m. on October 17, Mr. T was asked to go home by his family and died at home.
Also on October 17, the Center for Disease Control of Binh Dinh province took samples of a case of severe pneumonia suspected to be caused by a virus and sent them to the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang for testing. The results showed that Mr. T was positive for Influenza A/H1pdm.
On October 19, Vinh Thanh District Health Center coordinated with Vinh Thanh Town Health Station to investigate epidemiological factors related to the case. Thereby, it was determined that in the 14 days before falling ill, Mr. T lived locally, did not travel far, did not come into contact with people showing symptoms of influenza, and did not use sick/dead/unknown origin poultry.
Investigation around the area where Mr. T lives, no similar cases of the disease were found. Mr. T's house and other households do not raise pigs or chickens, and there are no facilities for slaughtering livestock or poultry.
Faced with the above situation, the Center for Disease Control of Binh Dinh province requested the Vinh Thanh District Medical Center to strengthen monitoring of severe pneumonia cases suspected to be caused by viruses (complicated influenza - severe influenza) at medical facilities in the area, and have a plan to promptly transfer patients to other hospitals to limit the progression of the disease.
