Limit foods rich in purines
Foods rich in purines such as meat, poultry, fish and animal organs are the most important foods to avoid to prevent kidney stones. Because purines can increase the production of a substance called monosodium urate, which can cause kidney stones caused by uric acid. Eating plenty of plant protein and milk can provide the protein you need without harmful purines.
Be careful with foods high in oxalate
Foods with high oxalate content, such as spinach, almonds, etc., cause oxalate to bind to calcium in the urine to form calcium oxalate stones.
Stay away from added sugar and sodium
Consuming too much added sugar and sodium can increase the risk of kidney stones. Research shows that people who only get less than 5% of their total daily calories from added sugar have a significantly lower risk of kidney stones than those who consume up to 25% of calories from this source.
Regarding salt, limiting sodium intake to less than 2,000 mg per day, especially from processed foods, is one of the most effective measures to prevent kidney stones.
