4 ways to effectively prevent sunburn in the summer

Hot summer weather can increase the risk of sunburn and skin damage. Here are 4 ways to help you limit this condition.

1. Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen

Applying sunscreen is one of the most important steps to protect your skin from the harmful effects of sunlight. However, not all sunscreens are equally effective. You should choose broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect your skin from both UVA and UVB rays, even on cloudy days.

2. Reapply sunscreen after 2 hours of application

Besides choosing the right type of sunscreen, reapplying it regularly is also very important. Experts recommend reapplying sunscreen after 2 hours outdoors.

If you swim, sweat a lot, or wipe yourself with a towel, you should still reapply it even when using waterproof sunscreen, as the skin protection effect will gradually decrease after exposure to water or sweat.

In addition, you should apply sunscreen about 15 - 30 minutes before going out so that the product has enough time to penetrate and take effect.

3. Avoid direct sun exposure between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

The period from 10 am to 4 pm is when the sunlight is harshest and the UV index is usually high. Exposure to sunlight during this time can increase the risk of sunburn, skin darkening and long-term skin damage.

Therefore, if it is not really necessary, you should limit going out during this time frame. In case you have to work or move outdoors, find a shady place or apply appropriate shielding measures to reduce the impact of sunlight.

4. Wear protective clothing when going out

One of the effective ways to limit the harmful effects of sunlight is to wear appropriate shielding clothing. Long-sleeved shirts, trousers and wide-brimmed hats can help protect many areas of skin on the body from direct UV exposure.

Thick, dark-colored woven fabrics or specially designed clothes that can withstand UV rays will provide better protection. In addition, wide-brimmed hats are especially useful in covering the face, ears, neck and scalp.
