Vietnam Aviation Trade Union:

The bravery to overcome "storms" and the digital journey of aviation workers

In the exchange to welcome the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, Mr. Dao Manh Kien - Chairman of the Trade Union of Vietnam Airlines Corporation (General Corporation Trade Union) shared many thoughts about the responsibility of the trade union organization in accompanying, protecting and helping workers (NLĐ) adapt to changes and the new technology era.

The biggest concern is still income and stable jobs for workers.

Looking back at many years of attachment to the aviation industry's trade union activities, Mr. Dao Manh Kien said that what worries him the most is still the lives of workers in the face of continuous changes in the industry.

Mr. Kien recalled that from the beginning of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic had a serious impact on the aviation industry in general and Vietnam Airlines Corporation in particular. A series of flights had to be suspended, production and business activities were stalled, leading to heavy impacts on income, jobs and lives of workers.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, in the period 2024 - 2025, the production and business situation of the Corporation gradually recovered and improved, and the income and jobs of employees improved significantly. However, the war in the Middle East from the end of February 2026 to now has caused fuel prices to fluctuate, making production and business activities of the Corporation face many difficulties," Mr. Kien shared.

In that context, what moved the Trade Union Chairman was the spirit of companionship of employees with businesses.

I highly appreciate the sharing, consensus, and solidarity of employees in the unprecedented difficult periods of the Corporation," he said.

According to Mr. Kien, behind the figures on revenue, output or market share is the constant worry of tens of thousands of aviation workers about stable income, sustainable jobs and adaptability to change.

What I am most concerned about for the lives of workers today is sustainable income, stable jobs in the face of the impacts of geopolitical fluctuations in the world on the production and business results of the Corporation. At the same time, the significant and long-term impact of the 4.0 industrial revolution," Mr. Kien said.

Trade unions must help workers not be left behind in digital transformation

Besides the "storms" from the market and geopolitics, aviation workers today are also facing a wave of changing times: the 4.0 industrial revolution. The significant and long-term impact of this wave is reshaping the entire operating method of the global aviation industry. The job of an aviation worker from the ground to the sky is changing day by day.

However, from Mr. Dao Manh Kien's optimistic and strategic perspective, this is not a "threat" to unemployment, but actually a new opportunity. He affirmed that this is a great opportunity for those who know how to adapt, grasp, constantly learn, and apply technology to work more efficiently, more quality, and achieve higher productivity.

To shape a right direction, the Corporation's Trade Union relies on strategic guidelines. Based on Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, the Party Committee of Vietnam Airlines Corporation quickly issued a resolution on the development of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation of Vietnam Airlines Corporation in the period 2025 - 2030.

Recognizing this vital importance, the Corporation Trade Union has promptly deployed and thoroughly grasped to trade union levels about general goals, specific goals along with key tasks and solutions in the period 2025 - 2030 and orientations for the following years. From there, helping trade union levels proactively deploy and apply in a flexible manner, most suitable to the actual situation and conditions at each unit.

Besides the sacred and consistent mission of caring for and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of union members and workers, in this digital age, Mr. Dao Manh Kien believes that the industry trade union needs to focus its efforts on the following four strategic key tasks:

First, transform awareness into action: Strengthen propaganda and thoroughly understand to each worker about the Party's leadership in science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation. We not only consider this a purely professional task, but also a regular political task of profound strategic significance, associated with the implementation of the Resolution of the 6th Party Congress of the Corporation and Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo.

Second, revolutionize organizational thinking: It is necessary to drastically innovate the thinking and methods of trade union activities. It is necessary to boldly step over the traditional management thinking to shift to supportive thinking, digital connection. Focus on training and improving digital skills for workers, and at the same time strongly spread innovation culture, turning it into a constant driving force, deeply penetrating into all daily activities.

Third, building a shield to protect workers in the digital space: Proactively strengthen collective dialogue and negotiation in a substantive way on issues directly affecting jobs brought about by digital transformation.

Fourth, arouse the spirit of pride and creativity: Trade union organizations need to skillfully link digital transformation work with practical care activities, integrated into core emulation movements such as "Good labor, creative labor". From there, create an environment and motivation for workers to become closer to science and technology through trade union activities...

Since the beginning of the year, the Trade Union of Vietnam Airlines Corporation has spent visiting, giving gifts and supporting trade union members and employees with a total amount of 56,075,210,000 VND:
