Here are some dry fruits that diabetics should avoid, says Ludhiana-based nutritionist Garima Goyal.

1. Figs

Figs are high in sugar, including fructose, dextrose and glucose, so they are not suitable for diabetics as they can increase blood sugar levels.

2. Dates

Dates are high in natural sugar and have a high glycemic index, ranging from 42 to 72, making them unsuitable for diabetics.

3. Dried cherries

Dried cherries are high in sugar, which can raise blood sugar levels. So, replace dried cherries with fresh cherries for a safer option for diabetics.

4. Dried banana

Compared to fresh bananas which are rich in calories and nutrients, dried bananas are even higher in calories due to the frying or sugar coating process, so they are not suitable for diabetics.

5. Dried mango

Dried mango has a high glycemic index, increasing blood sugar levels, so it is a fruit that people with diabetes should not eat.
