Drink water regularly, good habits should be maintained
Many people tend to forget to drink water on cool rainy days, leading to dehydration without realizing it. The body still needs to be hydrated even when you are not feeling thirsty, says Dr Usha Chennuru, Internal Medicine Specialist in Hyderabad, India. Drinking water on a fixed schedule, such as every 30 - 45 minutes, is an effective way to maintain a stable water level".
You can use eye-catching color water bottles, make reminders on your phone or download a water tracking application to maintain a regular water drinking habit.
Eat water-rich foods
In addition to drinking water, you can supplement water through food. Joining fruits such as watermelon, oranges, or fruit smoothies and ice cream from yogurt are not only delicious but also very nutritious.
These foods help rehydrate naturally, while providing vitamins and antioxidants, which are essential for boosting immunity during the monsoon season, Dr Usha added.
Recognize signs of dehydration early
According to the National Institutes of Health (NHS), signs such as dry mouth, lips, dark urine, low urination, fatigue, and irritability can be early signs of dehydration.
Early recognition and response by supplementing water or rehydration solution (ORS) will help prevent serious consequences such as exhaustion or weakness.
Use the right ORS when needed
According to the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Nephrological Diseases (NDKID), when you are vomiting or diarrhea, you not only lose water but also lose electrolytes, at this time, ORS is a lifebuoy.
Choose the type of ORS recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), containing balanced glucose and electrolyte content, avoid those with high sugar because it can make diarrhea worse.
Beware of water sources and personal hygiene
During the rainy season, water sources are prone to pollution. Drink boiled or filtered water carefully, limit eating outdoor food and always wash your hands before and after eating.
Ensuring hygiene not only helps the body absorb water effectively but also reduces the risk of intestinal infections, the leading cause of dehydration during the rainy season, Dr. Usha emphasized.
Don't let the rainy season make you subjective with your body's water needs. Maintaining the habit of drinking water, supplementing water-rich foods, using ORS properly and maintaining hygiene are simple but essential actions to stay healthy during the monsoon season.
