Doctor explains the reason for increased uric acid but no joint pain

HƯƠNG SƠN |

High uric acid does not mean gout and even if you have never had joint pain, patients still need to pay attention.

According to BS.CKII Nguyen An Chau, General Director of Minh Anh International Hospital, high uric acid in the blood does not mean gout. This condition may be related to many factors such as diet, lifestyle, metabolic diseases, kidney function or side effects of some drugs.

According to Dr. Nguyen An Chau, all cases of increased uric acid in the blood need to be monitored. Treatment depends on the cause and specific condition of each person, which can start with adjusting diet, lifestyle or using medication when prescribed.

Dr. Nguyen An Chau said that prolonged hyperuricemia can cause silent damage to many organs. Patients are at risk of forming kidney stones, chronic kidney disease due to interstitial tissue damage, hypertension and atherosclerosis, thereby increasing the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke.

In addition, increased uric acid may also be related to metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance.

According to BS.CKII Nguyen An Chau, the decision to monitor or intervene in treatment is based on many factors, including the level of increased uric acid, clinical symptoms and accompanying diseases.

Therefore, patients should not rely solely on one test score to decide whether to use medication or not.

According to Dr. Nguyen An Chau, the re-examination time depends on the degree of increased uric acid and treatment method. Usually, after adjusting the diet, lifestyle or using anti-uric acid drugs as prescribed, patients can have a re-examination after about 2 weeks.

If uric acid returns to normal and the patient is not in the risk group, they can be checked periodically for about 6 months to 1 year.

Meanwhile, people with risk factors such as obesity, metabolic diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes or diet and lifestyle that are not well controlled should be monitored more regularly, about 3-6 months/time.
