The 9-year-old girl, 1m30 tall, weighing 25kg, has just been successfully treated by doctors at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital for a left ovarian cyst using endoscopy, preserving maximum healthy ovarian tissue.
Previously, the child patient was transferred to Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from the lower line with a persistent lower abdominal pain. ultrasound results showed a tumor in the left ovarian region.
When admitted, doctors noted that the patient was not yet ready for menopause - an important factor in helping to rule out causes related to hormones or early puberty. The ultrasound results showed that the left ovarian follicle was 51x52mm in size, with a mixture structure that suggested the shape of the follicle.
After consultation, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Thi Anh Dao - Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology A5 and her team decided to undergo endoscopic surgery to both diagnose and determine and thoroughly treat the lesion.
During the surgery, the doctor discovered that the left ovarian follicle was about 7x6cm in size. The baby's uterine death was observed to be underdeveloped, suitable for the age and stage of pre-puberty. The surgical team separated and preserved the healthy ovarian tissue to ensure future reproductive function for the child.
The entire tumor was removed via endoscopy, without complications during and after surgery. After a few days of treatment, the child recovered well and was discharged from the hospital.
According to doctors at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, parents should take their children to see a doctor when they have symptoms of prolonged or unusually large abdominal pain, especially in immature children. Early detection and timely treatment not only help preserve reproductive function but also prevent possible dangerous complications.
