Emergency care in a coma
On August 4, information from Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital said that the unit had just rescued a 3-year-old boy in critical condition due to eyelid snoring.

Previously, at 0:00 on July 30, Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital received a special case: a 39-month-old boy was hospitalized in a coma, with cardiac arrest, caused by a foreign body in the airway from sucking a longan.
According to the family, the child had a stink on a longan that had peeled off, then developed a cough, difficulty breathing, and returned to purple. The family tried first aid by patting her back but it was ineffective. After about 20 minutes, when taken to the district hospital, the child fell into a coma, stopped breathing and had circulation.
Here, doctors performed emergency cardiac arrest and removed the foreign object, the longan in the lower throat. After 10 minutes, the patient's heart rate returned but he was still in a deep coma, so he was transferred to Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital in critical condition.
At Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital, the patient was immediately supported with respiratory, circulatory and bronchial endoscopy for emergency care. Doctors have removed many small foreign objects that block the airway. Due to severe lung damage, the child had to continue on a ventilator and receive intensive care.
Doctor Ngo Viet Hung said: "Currently, after the intensive resuscitation process, the child's consciousness has improved, he is on a ventilator and only needs oxygen respiratory support."
Doctor's recommendation
According to doctors, foreign bodies in the airways are a common accident in children, especially under 5 years old, and can cause death if not treated promptly. Statistics from many medical facilities across the country show that foreign objects that cause airway obstruction are very diverse such as longan, peanuts, bone pieces, small toys... There are many cases of leaving severe neuropathy sequelae or death.
Doctors recommend: Parents should monitor children closely when eating or playing with small objects, avoid letting children freely hold things that can easily cause choking. If an accident occurs, do not fix the child's throat but stay calm, perform the Heimlich procedure properly, take the child to the nearest medical facility as soon as possible.
According to Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital, since 2009, it has successfully deployed emergency bronchial endoscopy techniques, helping to save hundreds of cases of strangulation in the airway, ensuring safety and effectiveness.
