Elderly people concentrate on holding back at home
At Thong Nhat Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. H.T.H (68 years old) was admitted to the hospital in a state of acute respiratory failure and had to use a ventilator. The patient had a history of chronic lung blockage, high blood pressure and diabetes. Having become accustomed to prolonged shortness of breath, he took medicine periodically at home, waiting for the day of a follow-up examination. However, after only a few days of trying to resist, he fell into a severe respiratory failure and was hospitalized for emergency care.
"Old patients have many underlying diseases, if self-treated at home, it will be very dangerous because the body's reaction is weak, the disease can get worse quickly in just a few hours" - a doctor at the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Thong Nhat Hospital shared.
Similarly, Ms. M.T (43 years old, living in Binh Thanh District) was also hospitalized in a state of rapid breathing, heartbeat, due to acute respiratory failure. The three days before, she only felt tired and had little difficulty breathing, but thinking it was a common cold, she did not go to the doctor. When her illness became serious, she was taken to the hospital.
According to Thong Nhat Hospital, the Department of Internal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine has only 60 beds but is currently always overloaded, requiring additional field beds. The number of patients hospitalized for pneumonia, lung blockage, severe flu... has increased significantly in recent weeks.
thrombocytopenic Meritorious Disease, dangerous disease increases
Not only respiratory diseases, Ho Chi Minh City is also warning about infectious diseases with high mortality rates. According to the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City, as of September 21, the Southern region recorded 27 cases of meningitis caused by meningococcal platelets, of which Ho Chi Minh City alone had 12 cases.
The disease progresses very quickly, and can lead to septic shock and death in just a few hours if not detected early. Therefore, many parents are worried about having to distinguish between a normal fever and signs of a serious illness.
Dr. Nguyen Dinh Qui - Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Children's Hospital 2 - said that since the beginning of the year, the hospital has received 3 cases of scoliosis, most of which were transferred from the lower level in severe condition.
"Some people were rescued after 24 hours of treatment, but the sequelae were very serious. Children under 5 years old, adolescents and groups living in a group environment are at high risk" - the doctor warned.
At the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Dr. Dang Ho Trung Nghia - Head of the Vietnam - England Infection Department said that the number of cases of scoliosis meningococcal inflammation this year has increased compared to previous years. In the past 10 years, the pathogens admitted to the Hospital for Tropical Diseases are all serological group B. Bacteria are transmitted through the respiratory tract or come into direct contact with the patient's nasal and throat secretion, said Mr. Nghia.
In the face of the epidemic, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) recommends that people proactively get vaccinated against the disease - the most effective measure at present. The placental encephalitis vaccine is currently recommended for children from 9 months old and adolescents, but adults should also get vaccinated to protect themselves and the community.
HCDC also emphasizes personal hygiene: Wash your hands regularly with soap, cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing, and rinse your mouth with antiseptic solution. The living environment needs to be airy and clean; A reasonable diet and rest will help increase resistance, limit the risk of disease transmission.
In particular, people should absolutely not subjectively self-treat at home when there are suspicious signs such as high fever, headache, stiff neck, rash, shortness of breath or heartbeat. Delaying the examination can cause the disease to quickly worsen, causing complications or death.
In the context of Ho Chi Minh City entering the peak season of respiratory diseases, proactive disease prevention and early examination not only helps reduce the burden on hospitals but also protects the health of yourself and your family.
