At the first International Scientific Conference and the 65th Anniversary of Traditional Day (September 14, 1961 - September 14, 2026) on September 11, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Quang, Director of Hospital 19-8, after 65 years of construction and development, from an initially modest medical facility, the hospital has become a grade I hospital, the leading central level of the People's Police health sector.
Currently, the hospital has a scale of 1,000 beds, with a team of cadres, doctors and experts with high qualifications. Many modern medical techniques have been mastered and deployed regularly by the hospital, in which some specialties reach a level equivalent to end-line hospitals in the country.
In the field of cardiology, the hospital performs many specialized techniques such as aortic stent graft placement, complete arrhythmia treatment using 3D technology, implantation of devices to support the treatment of heart failure and automatic defibrillator.
In surgery, techniques such as kidney transplantation, liver resection, Whipple surgery, treatment of digestive tract cancer, neurosurgery and urology are gradually mastered. The hospital also deploys stem cell transplantation to treat blood diseases, modern radiation therapy techniques and many specialized endoscopic techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive, liver, bile, and pancreatic diseases.
Entering a new development phase, Hospital 19-8 identifies the key task as continuing to protect and care for the health of cadres and soldiers of the People's Police and serve the people.
According to Senior Lieutenant General Dang Hong Duc, Deputy Minister of Public Security, leaders of the Ministry of Public Security and Hanoi City have agreed on the policy of expanding the hospital area by 2ha. This is the basis for the hospital to develop infrastructure, increasing the scale from 1,000 to 1,500 inpatient beds.
According to the orientation, by 2030, with a vision to 2035, 19-8 Hospital strives to become a strategic hospital of the Ministry of Public Security, meeting the standards of a special-class hospital, operating under a modern, specialized and intelligent general hospital model.
By 2035, the hospital aims to master more advanced techniques, including organ transplantation, and at the same time promote the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in management, diagnosis and treatment.
The hospital also plans to gradually develop the hospital - university model in the period 2030-2035, combining medical examination and treatment with training and scientific research, thereby proactively building high-quality medical human resources.
Senior Lieutenant General Dang Hong Duc requested Hospital 19-8 to strive to become one of the leading hospitals in Vietnam, and at the same time gradually meet regional standards in some key specialties. The Institute of Cardiology is oriented to develop into a leading regional cardiovascular center.
According to leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, people are the decisive factor in the success of the development strategy. The hospital needs to build a team of leading experts, management staff, science and technology staff, and young doctors who are both professionally skilled, ethical, and dedicated.
The hospital is required to proactively attract talent, expand cooperation with professors, good doctors and domestic and international experts. Leading experts also need to strengthen training, vocational training and directly guide young doctors.
In parallel with human resource development, digital transformation is identified as an important pillar. The hospital will complete and effectively operate electronic health records, electronic medical records, electronic prescriptions; build a health data system for cadres and soldiers of the People's Police and gradually connect with the health system.
AI, big data and remote medical examination and treatment models will be strengthened for application to support diagnosis, treatment, health management and disease trend forecasting.
