According to Cho Ray Hospital, the total number of patients admitted to emergency care during the 4 days of the New Year holiday was 1,138 cases.
In which, surgical pathology accounts for a large proportion with 555 cases, an average of 139 cases/day. Traffic accidents continue to be the main cause group, with 149 cases, accounting for an average of 37 cases/day. In addition, occupational accidents recorded 53 cases, injuries 11 cases and poisoning 9 cases.
Emergency surgery activities during the holiday tend to decrease compared to the previous year. The entire hospital performed 182 emergency surgeries, a decrease of about 28-30% compared to the same period in 2025.
In the field of inpatient treatment, the number of patients still being treated until the morning of January 5 was 1,972 people, down 11.7% compared to the same period last year. However, many departments such as resuscitation and cardiology departments are still operating at maximum capacity or exceeding capacity.
Representatives of Cho Ray Hospital said that, in general, the 2026 New Year holiday, although the number of emergency cases increased, the pressure of surgical and inpatient treatment decreased compared to the same period. This is a positive sign in accident control and treatment organization, but also poses a requirement to maintain high readiness for the emergency system during long holidays and Tet.
