Ho Chi Minh City - On August 19, Children's Hospital 2 said that it had just successfully rescued a child with severe traumatic brain injury.

Male patient N.M. H., born in 2016 (Cambodian nationality), living in the border area of Vietnam. After a traffic accident, he was transferred to Children's Hospital 2 (HCMC) in a state of severe traumatic brain injury, life-threatening.

According to the patient's mother, at about 10 am on the day of admission, she was riding a bicycle and collided with a truck. Because the injury mechanism was not clearly identified, she was taken by people to a local medical facility for first aid. However, realizing that the injury was severe, while the final-line hospital in the locality was far from her residence, the family decided to take her to Vietnam for treatment.

At Children's Hospital 2, doctors examined and determined that the patient had cerebral contusion with hemorrhage in the forehead - temples on both sides, subdural hematoma of the right hemisphere and fractured right femur.

Faced with severe traumatic brain injury, the Neurosurgery team, Children's Hospital 2, performed surgery to open the skull, discharge the right hemisphere and remove blood clots. After many days of treatment and active monitoring, the patient's health gradually stabilized, functions improved and he was discharged from the hospital.

During treatment, the patient's family said that hospital fees exceeded their financial capacity. Faced with this situation, the Social Work Department of Children's Hospital 2 coordinated with the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City and philanthropists to support treatment costs, helping the family reduce the burden and feel secure in taking care of the patient.

According to Children's Hospital 2, over the past time, the Social Work Department has received and supported many cases of foreign pediatric patients coming for treatment at the hospital. Connecting support resources helps pediatric patients in difficult circumstances to access timely treatment, limiting the risk of interrupting the treatment process due to cost difficulties.

Children's Hospital 2 said it will continue to coordinate with functional agencies, diplomatic missions and philanthropists to support pediatric patients in special circumstances, including foreign children.

This activity not only contributes to ensuring the right to health care for children but also demonstrates the spirit of humanity, sharing and contributing to fostering friendship between Vietnam and countries in the region.
