On July 14, the Dak Lak Provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC) informed that the locality had just recorded another death from suspected rabies.
Previously, on July 10, Y.R.N. (born in 2012, residing in Ea Kha commune, Dak Lak province) showed symptoms of fever, fatigue, headache, fear of water, fear of wind.
After that, the patient was taken by his family to the Central Highlands General Hospital with a diagnosis of encephalitis and rabies.
At 11am the same day, the family took the patient to Ho Chi Minh City Tropical Hospital for further treatment with a diagnosis of rabies attack.
On the night of July 12, the patient's family asked to take the patient home. The patient died on the way home.
According to the patient's family, about 2 years before, the patient had been bitten by a dog in the neck but did not get vaccinated against rabies. After that, the dog was meatled by his family.
About 2 months before being admitted to the hospital, the patient was scratched by a domestic dog on his wrist and did not get vaccinated. Currently, the dog is still alive.
According to the neighbor, about 10 days after being admitted to the hospital, the patient continued to be bitten by the dog, but it was unknown which dog. The patient did not tell his family and did not get vaccinated against rabies.
According to the CDC Dak Lak, a dog died near the patient's house about a week ago of unknown cause.
From the beginning of 2025 to now, Dak Lak province has recorded 6 deaths from rabies.
