On August 6, a representative of Phu Thien Commune Health Station (Gia Lai Province) informed that the area had just recorded a death from rabies.
The death case was Mr. N.N.D (born in 1993, residential group 6, Phu Thien commune). According to information from the patient's family, on June 2, Mr. D riding a motorbike on National Highway 25, through Plei Tang C village (Chu A Thai commune), collided with a dog and was bitten in the leg.
After being bitten by a dog, Mr. D returned home, did not treat the wound, did not go to the commune health station for advice, so he did not get vaccinated and anti-rabies serum afterwards.
At 12 noon on August 1, Mr. D was admitted to Phu Thien Medical Center with symptoms of fatigue and constipation and was diagnosed with intestinal obstruction.
After that, he was transferred to Gia Lai General Hospital. Here, he showed symptoms: fear of wind, fear of water, fear of light, mild paralysis and was diagnosed with rabies and developed a stroke.
After being consulted by doctors about his condition, his family asked to take him home. At 7:00 p.m. on August 4, the patient died at home.
Through investigation and verification, in the home area, there was a dog that bit the patient, no other cases of dog bites were recorded, and no rabies outbreaks were recorded in animals.
