A study by the University of Toronto Scarborough (Canada) shows that mental clarity has a clear impact on daily work efficiency.
The research group followed 184 students for 12 weeks, using cognitive tests to measure daily sensitivity, and recorded each person's ability to achieve work goals.
The results showed that when in the best mindset, each person can complete an additional amount of work equivalent to about 40 minutes per day. Conversely, on less lucid days, productivity also decreases at a similar level. This creates a difference of up to 80 minutes between the most effective and worst working day.
Research also shows that this difference appears in almost everyone, regardless of personality or work habits. Even people with high discipline cannot avoid mental state fluctuations.
Scientists believe that clarity helps narrow the gap between intention and action. When the mind is alert, people are more likely to achieve goals and are ready to set more difficult tasks. Conversely, when tired, even simple work becomes difficult.
However, research has not confirmed a direct causal relationship. Many other factors such as health, stress, or sleep quality can also affect work performance.
According to the research group, there are 3 ways to help improve mental health each day, including getting enough sleep, avoiding prolonged exhaustion, and limiting stressors. The research results were published in the journal Science Advances.
