CNN reported that experts from University College London (UK) have just published a study in the journal Addiction, indicating that quitting smoking before the age of 30 can help the body recover and live as long as people who have never smoked.
According to research, each cigarette can shorten the life of men by about 17 minutes and women by 20 minutes. This means that for a person who smokes a pack of 20 cigarettes a day, they will lose nearly 7 hours of healthy life each day.
“That stolen time is precious minutes they could have spent with family and friends in good health,” said study lead author Dr Sarah Jackson.
Dr. Jackson explains that if a person quits smoking in their 20s or 30s, their life expectancy can be almost equal to that of a group of people who have never smoked. However, as they get older, the ability to recover decreases, and it is not possible to regain all the lost life time.
However, experts emphasize that quitting smoking at any point in time is beneficial, not only helping to prolong a healthy life, but also significantly improving the quality of life.
“When you quit smoking, you not only save yourself, but also bring joy and more quality time to the people you love,” Dr. Jackson affirmed.
So if you're looking for reasons to quit smoking, here's a powerful reminder: Your health, longevity, and quality of life are in your hands. Take action before it's too late!
