On February 15, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Truyen - Director of the Center for Disease Control of Binh Dinh province said that, in the face of the complicated developments of seasonal flu in other provinces and cities, including many cases of severe pneumonia, the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Health, and the Center have issued documents directing and guiding medical facilities and localities to implement measures to prevent and control respiratory diseases.
"Since the beginning of the year, the whole province has recorded 68 cases of influenza, and no cases of severe pneumonia have been recorded. After knowing the news of the increase in severe pneumonia cases in other provinces, people in the province have proactively been vaccinated against respiratory diseases," said Mr. Truyen.
According to the Center for Disease Control of Binh Dinh province, seasonal flu is an acute respiratory infection caused by the flu virus, which usually occurs in the winter and spring every year. In Vietnam, common viruses causing seasonal flu are influenza A/H3N2, A/H1N1 and influenza B.
seasonal flu often progresses benignly, but can also have complications in people with chronic cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, people with immunodeficiency, the elderly (over 65 years old), children (under 5 years old) and pregnant women.
"People need to pay attention to signs such as sudden high fever, body aches, fatigue, cough, sore throat. When there are the above symptoms, people should not arbitrarily do tests or buy medicine to treat at home but need to go to a medical facility for timely consultation, examination and treatment," the Center for Disease Control of Binh Dinh province recommends.
In order to proactively prevent and control seasonal flu, measles and respiratory diseases, the Department of Health of Binh Dinh province recommends that medical facilities organize well the flow of medical examination, admission, emergency care, diagnosis, early detection and timely treatment of patients with respiratory diseases...; do not allow cross-infection in hospitals. Strengthen screening for cases of acute respiratory infections, pneumonia, seasonal flu, and measles.
Medical Centers of districts, towns and cities strengthen supervision, early detection of cases of diseases, seasonal flu outbreaks and diseases transmitted through other respiratory tracts, deploy handling of outbreaks, limit widespread spread. Monitor cases of severe viral pneumonia, clusters of influenza cases in the community and medical examination and treatment facilities, promptly collect samples and tests to determine the cause of the disease.
According to statistics in 2024, Binh Dinh province recorded 997 cases of seasonal flu. Notably, there were 16 cases positive for influenza A/H1pdm, including 4 deaths (1 case in Vinh Thanh district and 3 cases in Phu My).
