On May 20, at Hanoi Medical University, the Ministry of Health organized the program "Day of Responding to Organ and Tissue Donation - Giving is Forever".
Implementing the direction of the Government and recognizing the humanitarian gestures in society, the Ministry of Health takes May 20 every year as the "Day of Responding to Organ and Tissue Donation" to express gratitude to organ donors and families who have made humanitarian decisions, helping to revive many lives, and spread the spirit of sharing in the community.
At the program, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra performed the bell-ringing ceremony to express gratitude to those who donated tissues and organs after brain death.

Speaking at the event, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that tissue and organ transplantation is one of the great medical achievements of the 20th century, bringing life opportunities to many patients. According to Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Health, the development of the field of organ transplantation cannot be without the noble gesture of donors and donor families.

Since the first kidney transplant in 1992, Vietnam has gradually mastered many modern organ transplant techniques such as heart and liver transplants, multi-organ transplants and transplants from brain-dead donors. To date, the whole country has performed more than 10,878 organ transplants, with 34 hospitals licensed for organ transplants and 286 cases of brain death organ donation.
In 2024 alone, there were 41 cases of brain death donating organs, and in 2025, 66 cases were recorded. Currently, the whole country has 177,454 people registered to donate tissues and organs after death.
Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that to promote the development of the field of tissue and organ transplantation, the health sector is committed to synchronously implementing many key tasks.
First, improve institutional policies. Submit to the National Assembly the Law on donation, removal, transplantation of human tissues and organs and donation and removal of corpses in the upcoming 2nd session.
Second, improve medical skills and maintain medical ethics. Each doctor and medical staff working in organ transplantation must be a role model of dedication. We are committed to using each donated tissue and organ in the most respectful, transparent and effective way. Not to let any golden heart be wasted, not to let any hope be missed.
Third, complete the professional system. The Ministry of Health will continue to direct hospitals and medical facilities to improve the capacity to receive, preserve and transplant organs. We will expand the network of organ donation consulting units in all hospitals with emergency resuscitation, in order to promptly detect and mobilize organ sources from brain-dead people - this is the most sustainable source of organs to help save more lives.
Fourth, promote digital transformation and publicity and transparency. The national organ transplant waiting list management and coordination software system will operate on the principle of absolute fairness and objectivity. Every citizen, wherever they are, whatever their position, if they have needs and meet medical indications, will have a fair opportunity to receive an organ transplant.
Fifth, focus on gratitude work. The health sector will coordinate with functional agencies to improve health care policies, honor organ donors and donor families. We consider organ donor families as close relatives of the sector, always giving the best attention and support.
Speaking at the program, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra said that in order for the tissue and organ donation movement to become a regular and widespread activity in society, it is necessary to continue to improve mechanisms, policies, and laws; invest in improving organ transplant capacity; build a modern coordination system; promote the application of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation.
At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister called on agencies, organizations, businesses and people to spread the movement to donate tissues and organs, contributing to multiplying the good human values in the community.
At the "Donate of Organs and Tissues Day", Miss World Vietnam 2025 Phan Phuong Oanh registered to donate organs and tissues.
Phan Phuong Oanh said that before registering for tissue and organ donation, she shared with her parents and family members and received support from everyone. According to Phuong Oanh, this is a meaningful act because "giving is forever", contributing to bringing life opportunities to many patients and spreading a humane message in the community.

The program "Day of Responding to Organ Donation - Giving is Forever" closed in a solemn and emotional atmosphere, leaving many imprints of profound humanity. The messages spread at the event continued to ignite responsibility, love and sharing in the community, contributing to promoting the movement to donate organs to become more and more widespread.
