MSc. Dr. Pham Thi Xuan Thu, Department of Internal Medicine and Musculoskeletal, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, said the tips for eliminating uric acid from the body quickly.
1. Drink enough water, simple measures to eliminate uric acid: When the body is dehydrated, the kidneys will have a harder time eliminating waste more effectively, causing uric acid to accumulate.
However, when the body is provided with enough water, it will help dilute uric acid in the blood and promote the excretion through urine more easily. Therefore, drink at least 2 liters of water per day. You can increase your water intake by drinking water, herbal tea, and coconut water.
2. Cut down on foods rich in purines
Purine is a natural compound in food that breaks down into uric acid. When uric acid levels in the blood are high, avoiding foods rich in purines can help reduce uric acid in the body.
Foods rich in purines should be avoided such as red meat, animal organs and some fish such as sardines because they can cause uric acid levels to spike. Instead, choose lean proteins such as chicken, eggs, tofu and beans. Vegetables, fruits, whole grains and low-fat milk are also effective choices to naturally reduce uric acid levels in the body.
3. Increase vitamin C intake
Vitamin C may play a useful role in reducing uric acid levels because it can help the kidneys remove more uric acid through urine. You can naturally increase your vitamin C intake by eating fruits such as oranges, lemons, kiwis and strawberries or you can take vitamin C supplements to increase your vitamin C intake.
4. Maintain a healthy weight
Being overweight can increase uric acid production in the body and put more pressure on the kidneys, making it harder for the kidneys to excrete. Therefore, losing weight can help reduce uric acid levels in the body and reduce the risk of gout and other complications.
However, to lose weight and maintain a sustainable weight, it is necessary to gradually lose weight, instead of following any strict diet.
In addition, it is necessary to focus on choosing a healthy lifestyle such as regular exercise, eating balanced and eating consciously; limiting processed foods, soft drinks, artificial sweeteners, limiting too much sugar and salt intake.
5. Limit alcohol and sugary drinks
Alcohol and sugary drinks, especially beer and soft drinks, can hinder the body's ability to eliminate uric acid. In addition, alcohol increases the risk of many diseases including cancer.
In addition, beer contains purines, while sugary drinks (especially corn syrup with high fructose content) can increase uric acid production in the body. Both of these put additional pressure on the liver and kidneys. Therefore, you should cut out or avoid these drinks completely. Instead, choose healthier options like lemon juice, unsweetened herbal tea, or carbonated water.
