The most effective way to prevent dangerous complications of seasonal flu

The current time is very favorable for respiratory infections to break out. People should proactively prevent seasonal flu by getting vaccinated.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are approximately 1 billion cases of influenza each year, with 3-5 million severe cases and 290,000 to 650,000 deaths. In Vietnam, 600,000 to 1,000,000 cases of seasonal influenza are recorded each year. The key surveillance system for acute viral pneumonia in Vietnam still records cases with approximately 10% of influenza patient samples testing positive for the A (H1N1) strain.

It is known that the influenza A H1N1 virus can survive for quite a long time in the environment (outside), can live from 24-48 hours on surfaces such as tables, chairs, cabinets... or can survive in clothes for 8-12 hours and can last for 5 minutes in the palm of the hand.

In particular, the pathogen can survive for a long time in water, such as up to 4 days at a temperature of about 22°C and several weeks at a temperature of 0-4°C. Therefore, swimming pools and public swimming spots can create an environment for the A/H1N1 virus to thrive, especially in rainy weather, low humidity, and lack of sunlight to destroy the virus. Even at a temperature of -20°C and freeze-dried, the influenza virus can survive for a whole year.

Influenza vaccination is the most effective way to prevent influenza and its dangerous complications. The World Health Organization reports that influenza vaccination reduces influenza mortality by 70-80% and has a protective effect of 80%-90%.

For patients with chronic diseases alone, vaccination can reduce hospitalization and death rates in cardiovascular patients by 35%, reduce death rates in diabetic patients by 58%, and reduce death rates in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by 70%.

According to Dr. Le Thanh Khoi, Head of the Medical Council, FPT Long Chau Pharmacy System and Vaccination Center, the flu causes more severe symptoms than the common cold and can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia.

“To protect personal health, especially for high-risk groups such as children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with underlying diseases, proactively getting vaccinated against influenza is very important and should be done as soon as possible,” Mr. Khoi emphasized.

Typically, flu symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, runny nose, sore throat, cough, and recovery within 2-7 days. However, the disease can become severe and fatal when the virus invades organs causing pneumonia, myocarditis, encephalitis, and sepsis. Groups such as people aged 65 and over, pregnant women, young children, and people with underlying diseases such as cardiovascular disease, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, kidney failure, diabetes, etc. are at higher risk of becoming more severe.

According to the FPT Long Chau vaccination center, in early 2025, the number of customers coming for vaccination increased by 5% compared to the end of last year. In particular, the demand for influenza and pneumococcal vaccination doubled in the past 1-2 months. This is due to changes in the weather and increased public awareness of the importance of proactive disease prevention in the face of widespread epidemic information.

Understanding the needs of customers, FPT Long Chau vaccination center has also implemented many support programs including influenza and pneumococcal vaccines with discounts of up to 10% to help customers easily access high-quality vaccines at good prices.

Currently, the Long Chau vaccination center system provides two types of high-quality influenza vaccines, including Vaxigrip Tetra, manufactured in France by Sanofi, and Influvac Tetra, manufactured in the Netherlands by Abbott. The supply of influenza vaccines is guaranteed through import and distribution plans from manufacturers.

All FPT Long Chau vaccination centers nationwide have received enough flu vaccines and stored them in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Health, ensuring that people's vaccination needs are met, especially during peak periods. Some key vaccination points have also increased their staff and the amount of flu vaccines to avoid shortages.

Flu vaccines play an important role in protecting personal health and community immunity. Currently, FPT Long Chau vaccination center is the leading unit providing quality vaccination services, with vaccines imported from reputable manufacturers around the world.
