CDC Nghe An informs about 11,100 people infected with HIV spreading on social networks

Nghe An - CDC Nghe An confirmed that the number of more than 11,100 cases of HIV spread on social networks is only accumulated data from 1996 to present, not the current situation.

In recent days, social networks have spread the information "Nghe An has 11,100 people infected with HIV", causing public confusion and creating many worried comments.

On November 15, Mr. Chu Trong Trang - Director of Nghe An Center for Disease Control (CDC) affirmed that this number does not reflect the current situation, but is a cumulative data since 1996, when the province recorded the first HIV infection, up to now.

According to the Nghe An CDC, up to now, the locality has recorded 11,148 HIV infections in 129/130 communes and wards. Men account for 77.65% of the total number of cases; the 20-29 age group accounts for the highest rate with 47.66%. Children under 13 years old account for 2.28%, while the group aged 50 and over accounts for 2.76%.

The whole province has had 6,677 people transition to the AIDS stage and 4,716 deaths.

CDC Nghe An said the unit is continuing to strengthen communication, expand community testing and ARV treatment to control the HIV epidemic, and advise people not to share unverified information to avoid causing panic.
