On September 18, the Dong Son Commune Public Service Supply Center (Quang Ngai) said that the dog head sample, symbol DS-DẠI, taken by the center and sent to the Central Veterinary Diagnosis and Testing Center II in Dak Lak, tested positive (the rabies virus was detected in the sample taken for testing).
As Lao Dong Newspaper reported, on September 15, a stray dog, owner unknown, showing signs of lethargy, red eyes, and drooling, bit the legs of 5 people in 4 villages including Chau Thuan Tay, Chau Thuan Bien, Phu Quy and Tan Dinh (Dong Son commune). The animal was beaten to death by local people. In addition to the 5 people bitten, there were 4 other dogs in contact with the rabid dog.
All 5 dog bites cases have been guided by the Dong Son Commune Health Center to treat injuries, vaccinate and inject anti-rabbit serum. The cases monitored at home are still stable, with no signs of suspected rabies.
Dong Son Commune Public Service Supply Center has organized disinfection and environmental sterilization, vaccination for all domestic dogs bitten by dogs suspected of having rabies; and at the same time distributed vaccines to families in villages so that people can proactively vaccinate dogs and cats early.
Quang Ngai Department of Health requests Dong Son Commune People's Committee to direct the Public Service Supply Center, commune health station and villages in the area to continue to review and investigate cases of dogs and animals having rabies attacks or suspected rabies in the commune; organize the destruction of animals infected or died from rabies (if any); sanitize, disinfect, and detoxify epidemic areas.
