According to BS.CKII Nguyen Minh Tien - Deputy Director of the City Children's Hospital, the child was transferred to the hospital in a state of severe blood loss shock, pale skin, and difficult-to-measure blood pressure. Previously, the child sitting behind the motorbike driven by his grandmother collided with a truck, fell to the road and was run over by another vehicle. The multiple injuries caused the child to have widespread skin peeling in the perineum, back, and buttocks; ruptured liver, ruptured bladder, complex pelvic fracture and severe blood loss.
Immediately upon admission, the hospital activated a red alert, transfused more blood and blood products, used vasopressors and quickly took the child into the operating room. The surgical team stopped the bleeding, removed crushed tissue, made a temporary anus, sewed the bladder and fixed the fractured pelvis.
After surgery, the child continued to face complications of Morel-Lavallée lesions, severe skin peeling with widespread fluid buildup. Doctors performed multiple cuts, placed a sound pressure aspiration system, continuously watered and washed, and cared for the wound in strict sterile conditions.
Thanks to multi-specialized coordination and the application of modern techniques, after nearly two months, the wound progressed well and a skin graft was successfully performed. The child was awake, gradually recovered and was discharged from the hospital, continuing to be monitored to treat urinary tract lesions and temporarily close the anus in the near future," Dr. Minh Tien added.
This case shows the important role of timely emergency care and intensive treatment in severe trauma cases in children.
