On December 21, Vung Tau General Hospital (HCMC) announced that a patient with severe multiple injuries had been successfully operated on by a team of doctors in coordination with a team of experts from Gia Dinh People's Hospital. The patient is now out of danger and is being monitored for intensive resuscitation.
Previously, in the early morning of December 19, patient N.C.D (born in 2009, residing in Phuoc Thang ward) was admitted to Vung Tau General Hospital in a state of serious multiple injuries. Through examination and imaging diagnosis, the patient was determined to have multiple peripheral thrombosis in many locations, with chest and spine damage, which progressed rapidly, directly threatening his life.
Immediately after receiving the case, Vung Tau General Hospital activated the cooperation content according to the signed agreement, proactively inviting a team of doctors specializing in Neurosurgery - Thoracic Surgery - Anesthesia and Resuscitation of Gia Dinh People's Hospital to directly support the treatment.
With urgent and close coordination between the two units, the emergency surgery was performed for about 4 hours and 30 minutes, completely removing the blood clot, with stable circulation.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, in the past, with the above complex level of damage, patients were often urgently transferred to end-line hospitals in the center of Ho Chi Minh City for intervention, posing many potential risks and slowing down the golden time to save patients' lives.
The success of the surgery is a testament to the effectiveness of the comprehensive professional support model, in which end-line hospitals proactively transfer techniques, provide on-site direct support, helping regional hospitals gradually master serious and complicated cases, reduce hospital transfers, reduce upper-level overload and improve treatment quality for people.
This is an important premise to continue expanding professional support programs between hospitals in the system, aiming to build a multi-center health network, ensuring people have access to high-quality healthcare services right in the locality.
