On October 22, Khanh Hoa General Hospital said that the surgical team led by BSCKII Nguyen Thanh Ton - Deputy Director of the Hospital, in coordination with a team of experts led by Professor Nguyen Xuan Nam - a plastic surgeon (USA), had just successfully performed a surgery on a newborn baby boy with congenital esophageal reflux disease.
Previously, on October 11, Ms. V.T.K.M (residing in Suoi Tien commune, Khanh Hoa province) gave birth to a baby boy at Khanh Hoa General Hospital. When 1 day old, the doctors discovered that the baby had congenital Esophagic Embryo, could not be suckled, and showed signs of respiratory failure.
The patient was immediately transferred to the Neonatal Resuscitation Department, on a ventilator and cared for by vein. After many interdisciplinary consultations, the doctor decided to perform early surgery to regain the baby's chance of survival.

With the support of experts and the smooth coordination of the team of 10 doctors, the 3-hour surgery was successful, opening a new life for the 4-day-old newborn baby. After surgery, the baby received special care at the Neonatal Resuscitation Department and was breastfed the first drop of milk.
This is the second time Khanh Hoa General Hospital has successfully operated on congenital enteritis. Previously, in 2024, the hospital also coordinated with an on-duty specialist to successfully operate on a 3-day-old child with the same disease.
According to the hospital's leadership, the surgery was not only a professional success but also affirmed the in-depth capacity of the medical team and doctors in saving the lives of critical newborns.
This success is also a testament to the strategy of cooperation and transfer of advanced techniques between the hospital and domestic and foreign experts, to improve the quality of treatment for pediatric patients.
