On March 1st, news from Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital said that the unit had rescued a critically injured victim after a traffic accident that occurred in February.
Specifically, on February 13, patient N.H. T (from Vinh Long province) was admitted to the hospital in critical condition after a traffic accident occurred in Khanh Hoa.
Upon admission, doctors recorded that the patient's peripheral pulse was weak, blood pressure dropped deeply, faint heartbeat, accompanied by many abrasions, closed chest and facial injuries.
Ultrasound at the bed revealed pericardial fluid with a discharge level of about 17mm.
CT scan results showed pericardial effusion and facial fracture. The patient was diagnosed with shock, monitoring for heart trauma.
Recognizing this as a particularly dangerous situation, if emergency surgery is not performed, the risk of death is very high, at 11:37 am on the same day, the team decided to perform emergency surgery.
When opening the chest, doctors discovered a torn left atrium about 10mm in size, blood flowing into the pericardium causing acute cardiac tamponade.
Immediately, the lesion site was sutured to stop the bleeding and release the compression of the heart. After more than 2 hours of tension, the patient's heart rate gradually stabilized. By 2 pm on the same day, the surgery was successfully completed.
After 10 days of treatment, the patient was eligible for discharge. According to doctors, ruptured heart due to closed chest trauma is a rare but extremely dangerous condition, requiring rapid diagnosis and timely intervention.
The success of the surgery shows the decisive role of emergency treatment and the smooth coordination between departments in the "golden" moments of saving people.
