On January 2, the Culture - Social Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council conducted a survey on developing a comprehensive health care system for the people of Ho Chi Minh City.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, in 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City health sector achieved many positive results such as developing specialized healthcare, many hospitals meeting international quality standards. However, there are still some difficulties.
Some of these hospitals have degraded and are overloaded, such as the Orthopedic Trauma Hospital, the Mental Hospital, the Tropical Diseases Hospital...
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has a project to submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council on investing, renovating, upgrading, and even building new hospitals to improve service quality and develop specialized areas in the area.
Mr. Anh Dung also informed that currently, health stations are still facing difficulties in terms of resources and staffing. The Department of Health proposed that when wards and communes are merged, the health station team should be kept intact to ensure primary health care.
At the survey, Mr. Cao Thanh Binh - Head of the Culture - Social Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council commented that the city has invested a lot in the health sector from the grassroots to the specialized health sector, especially the gateway hospital.
However, there are still some issues that need further attention, such as continuing to improve the quality of primary health care, reviewing and re-evaluating the facilities and equipment of health stations; increasing investment in medicines, especially those for treating chronic diseases, to attract people to visit health stations.
