On December 24, the Culture and Social Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council conducted a survey with People's Hospital 115 and Children's Hospital 1 on developing the health system and providing comprehensive health care for the city's people.
Received more than 17,000 stroke cases
Doctor Tran Van Song - Director of People's Hospital 115 said that every day, the hospital receives more than 350 emergency patients; examines and treats nearly 2,000 inpatients and more than 4,000 outpatients.
The hospital has implemented many advanced and modern techniques, including techniques that were successfully deployed for the first time in Vietnam. For example, thanks to the RAPID artificial intelligence software, thousands of patients who were admitted late (6-24 hours after the onset of the disease) have been saved, of which more than 50% have been able to return to normal life.
Dr. Tran Van Song informed that the number of stroke patients receiving specialized treatment at the hospital is increasing. In 2024, the hospital received more than 17,000 stroke cases.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huy Thang - Head of the Department of Cerebrovascular Diseases, People's Hospital 115, although the hospital treats a large number of stroke patients and has a team of good doctors, equipment and machinery have not been invested in proportionately. This directly affects the quality of treatment.
Increase the number of high-quality nurses
Regarding the orientation of specialized medical development, the Director of People's Hospital 115 proposed to build a 500-bed specialized inpatient treatment area, implementing the orientation of high-tech development and technology transfer. At the same time, consider approving the hospital to implement the plan to purchase some specialized high-tech equipment such as MRI system, DSA...
Also at the survey, representatives of Children's Hospital 1 recommended that the State should have specific policies and mechanisms in investing in developing infrastructure and modern medical equipment for hospitals.
Children's Hospital 1 alone has proposed to build 3 new buildings according to the approved plan. At the same time, there should be specific policies and mechanisms for training, recruiting and using good doctors, nurses and highly skilled specialists.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that the city has 20 general and specialized hospitals at the end of the line that are carrying out the task of developing specialized healthcare. The specialized healthcare sector of Ho Chi Minh City has achieved many positive results in obstetrics, pediatrics, internal medicine, oncology, organ transplantation, etc., increasing the number of patients saved.
However, there are still limitations in the development of specialized medicine, typically the situation of patient overload.
To meet the increasing demand for health care, more attention needs to be paid to health human resources, especially nursing. Ho Chi Minh City can pilot new types of nursing, increasing the number of high-quality nurses.
