Associate Professor, Dr. Luu Thi Hong, former Director of the Department of Maternal and Child Health (Ministry of Health), General Secretary of the Vietnam Obstetrics and Gynecology Association, said at the scientific conference "Menopausal endocrine therapy" organized by the Department of Maternal and Child Health on October 16: Many women have a reduced quality of life and feel lonely in their menopausal journey...
The average age of menopause in developed countries is 51-52 years old, but in Vietnam it is 48-50 years old. In Vietnam, there are about 13 million women in pre-menopause and menopause (45-69 years old).
Associate Professor, Dr. Luu Thi Hong also pointed out some risks, the average life expectancy of women has increased by nearly 10 years in the past half century. After menopause, women live an additional 20-30 years, equivalent to one-third of their life, but face a decline in the quality of life with many symptoms such as hot flashes, insomnia, fatigue, joint pain, osteoporosis, and long-term consequences of cardiovascular disease and memory loss.
Most women experiencing symptoms of menopause mistakenly believe that these symptoms are related to other specialties such as neurology, musculoskeletal system, etc.
Not finding the right specialist for consultation has caused menopausal women to not receive good care and treatment for their real illness. Therefore, improving health care for women during menopause is an urgent issue.
Dr. Tran Thi Thu Hanh, Deputy Head of the Department of Endocrinology - Central Obstetrics Hospital, said that menopause is a natural stage in a woman's life, but each person's experience will be different due to economic, social, cultural, biological factors... Any woman will go through menopause, sooner or later. Instead of panicking or worrying, women should proactively learn about this condition and its typical symptoms to overcome this stage smoothly.
Some women experience menopause gently and smoothly, but many struggle with a range of menopausal symptoms that affect their quality of life.
Therefore, Dr. Tran Thi Thu Hanh recommends that menopausal women should proactively go to reputable medical facilities for examination and treatment advice, to live happily, healthily and confidently pursue their passions and continue to conquer their dreams and ambitions. Depending on each specific case, the doctor will have advice and guidance on appropriate solutions to overcome the troubles that women have to endure.
There are many solutions to help improve premenopausal and menopausal disorders, in which menopausal hormone therapy plays an important role, recommended by many prestigious medical associations in the world as the first-line solution in treating menopause.
Women should talk to their health care professionals about their health conditions when menopausal disorders affect their quality of life to find appropriate treatment solutions.
The workshop is part of a series of activities in response to World Menopause Day on October 18.
