On August 8, the National Children's Hospital said that doctors from the burn unit - Orthopedic Department had just received and treated 3 children in the same family in Hanoi who suffered severe burns while eating hotpot. While the whole family was having a meal, a crab accidentally got caught in the power line of a boiling hotpot, causing the pot to flip over, and the boiling water poured on all three children. Immediately afterwards, relatives quickly gave first aid and took the children to the National Children's Hospital for emergency care.
At the burns unit - Orthopedic Department, after examination, doctors diagnosed all 3 children with severe burns in water level II-III in the shoulders, arms, legs, etc. Immediately after admission, the children were treated with emergency treatment according to the intensive treatment regimen: sedation, pain relief, exfoliation, clearing the burns, dilating the damaged skin and wound bandaging with specialized sheets with antibacterial effects, reducing pain and supporting skin regeneration, etc.
Fortunately, thanks to being taken to the hospital in time and treated properly, the children's health has stabilized and they have been discharged early.
According to Dr. Phung Cong Sang - Head of the burns, Orthopedics Department, National Children's Hospital, burns caused by boiling water in young children often cause deep damage, easily leave scars and long-term effects on motor function. Timely and proper treatment immediately after the accident plays an important role in reducing the level of damage and limiting sequelae.
Doctor Sang also warned: in young children, accidents can happen at any time if adults are subjective, especially meals using hot pots, soup pots or hot food will always have a high risk of causing burns. Therefore, parents and caregivers need to pay attention to:
Do not let children play near areas with hot pots or on-duty kitchens.
Place the hotpot in a firm position, away from the edge of the table or where there are easily electric wires.
Minimize children sitting near the cooking area.
Monitor your child carefully throughout the meal.
