On the morning of February 7, Mr. Tran The Anh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuc Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District, Nghe An - informed about the health status of two children who were poisoned by mistakenly drinking rat poison.
While P.T.H. (9 years old) recovered and was discharged from the hospital on February 5, P.V.K.'s (4 years old) condition became increasingly serious. At around 3:00 p.m. on February 6, he died.
Previously, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, on the morning of February 2, two sisters P.T.H. and P.V.K. followed their mother to the rice fields. While their mother was working, H. picked up a bottle of pink liquid, thinking it was soft drink, so she opened it and drank it with her younger brother.
Not long after, K. showed signs of cyanosis and convulsions, while H. also vomited and trembled. The two sisters were immediately taken to Yen Thanh District General Hospital for emergency treatment, then transferred to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital for further treatment.
After 4 days of intensive treatment, H. recovered and was discharged from the hospital first. However, due to ingesting a large amount of poison, despite the doctors' best efforts to save him, K. still did not survive.
