According to the Department of Health of Hai Duong province, there are more than 300 pediatric patients being treated as inpatients at Hai Duong Children's Hospital. Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Specialist Doctor II Nguyen Huu Vinh (Hai Duong Children's Hospital) said that cold weather causes many young children to suffer from diseases related to influenza A, acute diarrhea caused by Rota virus and respiratory diseases. During the Tet holiday, Hai Duong Children's Hospital receives and treats 150-200 pediatric patients/day. However, during Tet, the number of pediatric patients treated increased to 340-350 pediatric patients/day.
Not only Hai Duong Children's Hospital, Hai Duong General Hospital has recently received an average of 250 - 300 patients for examination related to cardiovascular disease and blood pressure. The Stroke Department and the Cardiovascular Center have used all the practical beds.
At the Cardiovascular Center, the number of hospitalizations is increasing, with more than 20 patients receiving treatment every day, of which about 10% have to undergo coronary intervention. Currently, the center is treating 80 patients.
The Stroke Department of the Provincial General Hospital also receives about 10 patients hospitalized for treatment per day, and the department is currently treating 48 patients. At district-level health centers, the number of patients related to cardiovascular disease, blood pressure, and chronic diseases has also increased. Due to cold weather and high humidity, the elderly and children with weak resistance are susceptible to disease.
In recent days, Hai Duong Lung Hospital has had an increase of more than 30% compared to before. On average, the hospital examines more than 150 patients per day, of which 60 - 70 patients have to be hospitalized on peak days, including many patients with respiratory failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with severe progress. Currently, the Emergency Resuscitation Department is treating 36 patients, including 9 patients who have to use a ventilator.
According to Dr. Nguyen Huu Vinh, each disease will have a different recommendation. For influenza A, children have symptoms such as cough, fever. Especially for children with a history of epidemics in contact with people with other symptoms of cough, fever leading to high fever, persistent fever, lethargy, chills... children must be taken to the clinic early for screening and early detection of the disease.
For acute diarrhea caused by Rota virus, children often have symptoms of mild fever, diarrhea, continuous vomiting, and fatigue. As for respiratory diseases, children often suffer from diseases such as nasopharyngeitis and bronchitis. Therefore, parents need to keep their children warm, wear masks when going out, and keep their children hygienic, said Dr. Nguyen Huu Vinh.
The Department of Health of Hai Duong province has recommended that people regularly wash their hands with soap to remove bacteria and viruses; get vaccinated to prevent influenza. In your daily meals, you need to fully supplement 4 basic groups of substances (starch, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals). For the elderly, children need to provide more starch, protein, fat, and vitamins than other seasons to fight the cold, especially supplementing vitamins A and C to increase the body's resistance. Avoid eating cold foods, foods that are just taken out of the refrigerator because they can easily get cold. The Department of Health of Hai Duong province requires units to ensure medicine, hospital beds and emergency care.
