On August 5, the Ha Tinh Center for Disease Control (CDC) coordinated with the People's Committee of Vung Ang ward to organize environmental sanitation campaigns and implement dengue fever prevention and control measures in the area.
Forces and people focus on collecting waste, treating items that can accumulate water, and overturning water containers that are no longer used to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.
Along with environmental sanitation, the health sector is spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes at patients' homes and surrounding households. Treatment is focused on high-risk areas to limit disease-transmitting mosquitoes from continuing to develop and spread.
Vung Ang Ward People's Committee requests residential groups to maintain regular environmental sanitation, mobilize people to proactively inspect residential premises, collect scrap, and handle items that may contain water.
People are also guided to regularly kill larvae and pupae, use mosquito repellent and killing measures, and sleep under mosquito nets to limit the risk of being bitten by mosquitoes.
The campaign takes place in the context of the dengue fever outbreak in Vung Ang ward that has lasted for about 4 months.
Previously, on April 6, the locality recorded the first case related to the dengue fever outbreak. By the end of July, this area recorded 113 cases and had not completely controlled the outbreak.
Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh - Director of Ha Tinh Center for Disease Control - said that one of the reasons why the handling of outbreaks is difficult is that environmental sanitation in some areas is not thorough, and the disease-transmitting vector, tick mosquitoes, still exist.
In addition, hot weather interspersed with periods of rain creates many water stains in household items and waste. This is a favorable condition for larvae and mosquitoes to develop.
According to the Ha Tinh health sector, chemical spraying is only one of the epidemic prevention and control measures. To reduce the source of infection and limit dengue fever from generating more cases, the elimination of mosquito breeding sites must be carried out regularly in each household.
Ha Tinh CDC requests people to proactively clean living areas, handle water containers, kill larvae, kill mosquitoes and implement mosquito bites prevention measures.
The health sector also emphasizes that the participation of each household plays an important role in controlling outbreaks, because water and waste containers in residential areas can continue to become breeding grounds for mosquitoes if not treated regularly.
