On July 10, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the City informed about the work of preventing and controlling the pig disease after recording a series of new cases in the area.
Since the beginning of 2025, the city has had 31 cases of streptococcus suis disease, including 1 death on July 2.
Notably, in June alone, Hue City recorded 27 infections, 4.5 times higher than the total number of cases in the first 5 months of the year combined, showing that the epidemic is tending to flare up strongly.

Faced with this complicated development, the authorities have organized inspections and sprayed disinfectants in areas where cases were recorded, while strengthening propaganda to warn people not to use stewed pork soup, sour nem, spring rolls or uncooked pork products.
Through inspection, all families with sick people and surrounding households did not directly raise pigs.
On the evening of July 9, an interdisciplinary inspection team consisting of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Economic Police, Hue City Police and Thanh Thuy Commune People's Committee suddenly inspected a slaughterhouse in the area.
At the time of inspection, this facility was illegally slaughtering 2 pigs (including 1 sows and 1 pig) outside the prescribed time frame. Through inspection, both pigs showed suspected signs of disease such as red spots on the head, legs and visceral damage.
At the facility, there are 2 other live pigs that also show signs of illness. The inspection team destroyed all 4 pigs and organized disinfection of the entire area to prevent the risk of spreading the disease.
To control the situation, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hue City requires localities to tighten inspection and supervision at slaughterhouses; strictly handle cases of slaughtering sick pigs or dead pigs; at the same time, promote vaccination, ensuring that at least 80% of the total pigs are vaccinated against disease.
