Osteoporosis is considered a problem for older women, especially after menopause. However, health experts warn that this disease is increasingly appearing in young people, due to modern lifestyle and poor nutrition. This risk occurs in both men and women in their 20s and 30s.
Dr. Vikram Vora, Medical Director, International SOS (Indian Subcontinent), said: Osteoporosis is a silent disease in which bones lose density over many years without causing pain. When a fracture occurs, the bones become very weak. Young people may also experience reduced bone density due to unhealthy lifestyles and a diet lacking in nutrients."
Lifestyle affecting early osteoporosis
Lack of exercise: Sitting often, lack of physical activity weakens bones.
Diets lacking calcium and vitamin D: Skipping milk and green vegetables and limiting exposure to sunlight hinder the absorption of essential nutrients.
Bad habits: Smoking, drinking a lot of alcohol or coffee also affect bone health.
Xuong develops strongly in young years and reaches its peak in the late 20s. If bone strength is not built enough during this period, the risk of osteoporosis will be higher later.
Young men are also at risk
Dr. Vikram Vora says that while women are more likely to develop osteoporosis, young men may also develop the disease. Lack of exercise, a diet lacking in calcium and vitamin D, and some health problems can weaken bones, increasing the risk of fractures even in light collisions.
Common causes in young people
Limited diet: Excessive dieting or vegetarianism but not adequate nutritional supplementation.
Vitamin D deficiency: Less exposure to sunlight.
Stress and lack of sleep: Affects bone recovery and formation.
How to prevent
Osteoporosis can be completely prevented if you take care of your health early:
Exercise regularly: Walking, jogging, and weight training help strengthen bones.
Balanced diet: Make sure you have enough calcium, vitamin D, and protein.
Limit bad habits: Avoid smoking, limit alcohol.
Check bone health: filter early if there is a family history of the disease.
bone health care is not only for the elderly but needs to start as soon as they are young.
