Advice for people who drink 1 cup of milk tea per day

One cup of milk tea a day can become an unbreakable habit, especially for people who regularly work and study stressfully.

However, the amount of sugar, fat and energy in drinks can cause the total calorie intake to increase rapidly if used regularly. Therefore, if you do not want to give up milk tea, users should adjust their drinking habits to reduce the burden on the body.

Milk tea today has many choices in terms of sugar content, size and toppings. A cup can contain a significant amount of sugar and energy, especially when combined with pearls, cheese cream, pudding or other toppings.

According to Dr. Ha Duc Vi, Head of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Thanh Hai University Hospital (China), sugary foods and drinks such as milk tea, if used regularly, can cause blood sugar to rise rapidly; high levels of fat and energy also easily contribute to fat accumulation, obesity and increase insulin resistance.

This does not mean that healthy people must absolutely avoid milk tea. The important issue is the frequency, portion size and total amount of sugar and energy throughout the day.

If you are drinking a glass of milk tea every day, the first change should be to reduce the sugar level. You can switch from 100% sugar to 50%, 30% or no sugar depending on your taste.

The trend of choosing low-sugar drinks is increasing. In a survey conducted by Xinhua, 75% of respondents were interested in choosing low-sugar or unsweetened drinks when buying milk tea and mixed drinks.

However, "low sugar" does not mean unlimited drinking. A glass can still contain energy from milk, ice cream, toppings and other ingredients.

If you are used to drinking milk tea every day, removing or reducing topping is a relatively easy way to do. Pearls, pudding, jelly or cream can increase the amount of carbohydrates, sugar and energy of a glass of drink.

You can choose low-sugar, low-topping milk tea or only drink the milk tea part without adding high-energy ingredients. It is noted that consumers are now also tending to pay more attention to the ingredients and choose drinks with fruits, cereals or ingredients that are considered healthier.

Another problem is that many people drink milk tea regularly but forget to drink filtered water.

Dr. Chu Phuc Duc, Head of the Nephrology Department, Beijing Medical University Hospital, said that drinks, although containing a lot of water, cannot completely replace filtered water; frequent use of sugary drinks may be related to metabolic disorders, obesity, increased uric acid and other health problems.

Therefore, if drinking a glass of milk tea during the day, the remaining water should still prioritize filtered water.

A cup of milk tea is not the only factor determining health. What is more concerning is whether it is in a diet high in sugar, high in fat and low in exercise.

People who regularly drink milk tea should limit adding pastries, soft drinks and sugary desserts on the same day. At the same time, maintain exercise and control weight.
