Subjective with signs of amenorrhea for 4 years
At the age of 40, Ms. L.T. H (from Phu Tho) has a family and two children. However, few people know that for the past few years, she has had to silently endure a series of negative changes in both physical and mental health.
Ms. H. said that she had completely lost her period since she was 36 years old. At that time, she thought her body was only suffering from temporary endocrine disorders, so she did not go for an examination. However, over time, abnormal symptoms began to appear more and more frequently.
Sudden fevers rushed in 3-4 times a day, regardless of day or night. She often woke up halfway because of hot flashes, profuse sweating, even some nights she had to wipe herself and change clothes to be able to sleep again.
Prolonged insomnia pushes the body into a state of fatigue and stress. Her skin becomes dry and rough, with many wrinkles appearing. Her mood also changes significantly, easily irritable and often immersed in negative thoughts.
Not stopping there, these changes also negatively affected married life. The "dry" and painful condition during intercourse gradually made Ms. H. hesitant and avoid sex, creating additional heavy psychological pressure.
Only when her quality of life was seriously affected did she decide to go to the Hanoi Center for Sexual Medicine (Hanoi Andrology and Infertility Hospital) for examination.
Unpredictable consequences of late detection
Through examination and endocrine tests, the results showed that Ms. H.'s ovarian function had seriously declined. Doctors concluded that she had early menopause syndrome.
According to MSc.BSNT Pham Minh Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Center for Sexual Medicine, early menopause is a menopausal condition that occurs before the age of 40. This condition is not uncommon, recorded in about 5–10% of women with secondary amenorrhea symptoms, but is very easily overlooked.
In addition to disorders or amenorrhea, patients often experience accompanying symptoms such as: hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disorders, mood swings, vaginal dryness, pain during intercourse and decreased libido.
It is noteworthy that prolonged estrogen decline not only disrupts family happiness but also directly threatens the long-term health of women. If not detected and managed promptly, patients face the risk of bone density reduction, osteoporosis, fractures and cardiovascular diseases.
Many young women mistake these symptoms for stress, endocrine disorders, or common signs of aging, so they delay going to the doctor. Meanwhile, late detection causes prolonged symptoms, seriously damaging women's health and quality of life," Dr. Ngoc emphasized.
After being assessed for risk factors and excluding contraindications, patient H was advised by doctors to apply hormone therapy combined with using moisturizing gel.
Only after about a month of following the regimen, Ms. H.'s hot flashes decreased significantly, and her sleep became stable. Her physical condition improved, and her spirit gradually recovered positively.
MSc.BSNT Pham Minh Ngoc said that hormone therapy is one of the "key" treatment methods for women in early menopause (when there are no contraindications). This method not only solves immediate symptoms such as hot flashes, insomnia or dryness, but also plays a role in protecting the musculoskeletal system and long-term cardiovascular health.
However, hormone therapy must be prescribed by a specialist doctor after a comprehensive examination, testing and evaluation process. People should absolutely not arbitrarily buy or use hormone supplements floating on the market.
Doctors recommend: Women, especially those under 40 years old, should absolutely not be subjective if menstrual disorders or prolonged amenorrhea appear.
When you notice accompanying signs such as hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, vaginal dryness..., you should immediately go to specialized medical facilities for early examination. Identifying the cause correctly and intervening promptly is the only way to minimize long-term consequences for health.
