The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety has just reported on food safety and hygiene assurance work in January, and key tasks in February 2206.
In the report, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety concluded that 2/6 cases that occurred in the area in January 2026 were food poisoning, including the case of using banh mi at Ngoc Ha establishment in Phu My ward, Ho Chi Minh City.
The main cause of poisoning is Salmonella ssp and Escherichia coli bacteria found in bread fillings (pate, egg sauce, beef sausage, cold cuts, cucumber, chili). Among 500 people who ate, 125 people were poisoned and had to be hospitalized for treatment.
Previously, hundreds of people in Phu My ward (HCMC) came to medical facilities and hospitals to treat symptoms of food poisoning, all of whom had in common that they had used bread from Ngoc Ha establishment. Functional agencies have taken samples for testing according to regulations.
At the same time, during the administrative inspection, this establishment did not have a certificate of food safety eligibility. Therefore, Phu My Ward People's Committee issued a decision to impose an administrative fine of 15 million VND.
