Fear and pain when "near husband"
MSc. Dr. Pham Minh Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Center for Gender Medicine, said: In the past month alone, the center has received 7 cases of couples coming for examination with the condition of not being able to do the same thing for many years. The reason is that the wife feels pain right from the start of sex and even just needs to think about being close to each other to start feeling scared and haunted.
What they have in common when coming for examination is the appearance of 3 main symptoms: pain during sex, fear of being "close" to" husband and unexpected sexual contractions.
Muscle contraction is a natural reaction of the body when feeling pain or discomfort. Patients often tend to clench their knees, even at home, as a way to protect themselves. The fear has been there for a long time, sometimes becoming an obsession. Rapid heartbeat, anxiety, sweating... are common manifestations of each "close" time in many cases.
After receiving and examining, the central doctor determined that the patients all had a female sexual dysfunction, which is the disease of " vaginal cramps".
According to Dr. Ngoc, vaginal spasm is a condition of involuntary contraction of the genital pelvis muscles in the patient, preventing all movements into the vaginal cavity. The main cause is psychological, in addition to hormonal causes, injuries, surgery, etc.
Some other cases may be due to the patient being haunted by the first-time experience being too rough, leading to a fear of having sex later. V bagal spasms can occur in any woman, regardless of age or time of marriage.
Apply modern methods for treatment
For example, patient H.H.L, 24 years old, has been married for 2 years. The patient came to the center for examination with symptoms, vaginal pain and fear during sex; vaginal contractions that did not resolve, causing pain and difficulty for both husband and wife. This situation gradually caused the couple to disagree because they could not get along, and the marriage was on the brink of breaking up.
Through medical history, the doctor said that although they were married for 2 years, the patient had never been able to put her hand or any tools into the vaginal area. The patient shared with the doctor: At first, when I had sex with my husband, I felt extremely pain and discomfort. At that time, I thought that the pain was due to having sex for the first time and not having any experience, so I didn't think about anything, until I tried many times but failed, at that time I started to feel confused.
This condition became more and more serious when the pain appeared more and more, I felt scared every time I thought about sex, gradually my husband and I became cold and could not "do that" for a long time.
Through examination, the doctor found that the patient's vaginal muscles contracted when touched, and the patient was diagnosed with " vaginal spasm" syndrome. In this case, the central doctor prescribed psychotherapy and sex therapy.
During the treatment, the patient was instructed by doctors and nurses on vaginal relaxation exercises, behavioral cognitive therapy to control fear, combined with sexual sedation and vaginal discharge.
As a result, after 6 sessions of treatment, the patient had significant improvements such as no more burning pain, fear of having sex, and no uncontrolled muscle contractions in the vaginal muscles. The patient has adjusted her emotions and "entered a relationship" comfortably with her husband. The couple's married life has improved, they are confident and happy. The family is hoping to soon receive the "good news".
Experts recommend that women with symptoms of suspected vaginal cramps should go to specialized medical facilities for timely advice and treatment. "Don't let this secret pain haunt your life. boldly seek the help of experts, you will find joy and happiness in love again, Dr. Ngoc emphasized.
