Weight management
A study published in the Journal of the Endocrine Society said that eating dinner late is often accompanied by weight gain and higher blood sugar, because metabolism at night slows down. Therefore, it is necessary to keep a reasonable distance between dinner and bedtime so that the body has more time to digest and metabolize food more effectively.
Acid reflux, digestion and related problems
According to a study in the American Journal of Gastroenterology, people with reflux should avoid eating anything at least 3 hours before bed, because eating a large meal right before bed can easily cause gastroesophageal reflux, indigestion and heartburn.
Sleep quality
A high-calorie meal or indigestible food before bed can disrupt sleep, even though the body still needs energy for night activities. Eating late or eating too much can negatively affect the duration and depth of sleep.
Overall health
Eating late at night and eating a lot is associated with risks such as obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Eating too close to bedtime can increase fat accumulation in the liver and cholesterol in the blood.
