Doctors of the Department of Orthopedic Trauma Surgery and Sports Medicine - E Hospital have just received and treated a case of serious hand injury due to firecracker explosions. The accident happened in just a moment but could leave serious consequences, even the risk of loss of hand function if not treated promptly.
The patient is a young man, admitted to the hospital with a complex wound on his left hand after using firecrackers. According to the patient's account, while setting off firecrackers, the firecracker suddenly exploded right in his hand, causing serious injury to his hand.
Immediately after the accident, the patient was taken to E Hospital for emergency treatment. Through initial examination, doctors recorded that the patient's left hand was complexly crushed, bleeding profusely, with the risk of damage to tendons, blood vessels and nerves. In the wound, there were many foreign objects and necrotic tissues, if not treated promptly, it could lead to loss of hand function.
According to doctors, this is a common type of injury in firecracker accidents, with very serious severity due to the strong explosion force that can deeply destroy structures such as bones, tendons, muscles and joints. Therefore, early emergency care and surgery play an important role in preserving the maximum function of the hand.
Immediately after receiving the patient, the medical team performed first aid, stopped bleeding from the wound and organized an inter-specialized consultation to comprehensively assess the extent of the injury. After agreeing on the treatment plan, the patient was indicated for emergency surgery to treat the wound and preserve hand function.
During the surgery, doctors proceeded to remove crushed tissues and remove foreign objects from the hand. At the same time, the wound was thoroughly cleaned, and the remaining structures such as tendons, nerves and blood vessels were maximally preserved. Doctors also proceeded to fix the broken bones and dislocated joints to stabilize the hand structure.
After surgery, the patient continued to be monitored and treated at the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Doctors closely monitored the risk of secondary infection and necrosis and developed a rehabilitation plan to help the patient return to normal activities soon.
Dr. Nguyen Trung Tuyen - Head of Department of Orthopedic Trauma Surgery and Sports Medicine, E Hospital - said that many cases when admitted to the hospital had very severe crushed hands, and the preservation of limbs faced many difficulties. Therefore, prevention is still the most important solution.
Accidents caused by firecracker explosions can cause crushed hands, complex fractures, deep burns, even loss of fingers or even the whole hand, leaving permanent disability sequelae. Notably, most victims are young people, especially students, due to lack of understanding of the danger of firecrackers and subjectivity when using homemade or unknown origin firecrackers.
