On July 9, Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital said that the unit had just received Mr. H (59 years old, Vinh Long province) in a state of severe chest pain, pain spreading to the back, with underlying hypertension and signs of blood supply disorders in the organs.
Through examination and paraclinical results, the patient was diagnosed with type A atherosclerosis with an opening in the atherosclerosis valve due to dilated coronary artery - an emergency condition that can be life-threatening if not treated urgently.

This is a rapidly progressive cardiovascular disease and is very dangerous. If left untreated, the mortality rate is about 1% to 2% per hour after symptoms appear. If not operated on, the mortality rate > 50% after 1 month.
Recognizing this as a complicated case, doctors urgently deployed an emergency procedure and held a multi-specialty consultation to develop a treatment plan.
After clinical and paraclinical assessments, the patient was indicated for open heart surgery with many combined techniques: patching and fixing an open aorta valve, replacing the superior and peripheral artery, reconstructing two coronary artery holes and reconnecting three branches of the blood vessels that nourish the brain. At the same time, doctors also placed a stent Graft to treat damage in the lower aorta to protect blood flow to internal organs.
During the surgery, the patient was given a deep body-heating technique of cardiac arrest - a method that allows reducing body temperature to about 18-20°C, thereby creating conditions for the medical team to temporarily stop the whole body's blood circulation for a short time, helping to operate safely on large blood vessels near the heart and brain without causing damage to vital organs.

The surgery lasted about 7.5 hours, performed by a team of doctors specializing in Cardiovascular Surgery - Thoracic Surgery - Resuscitation after heart surgery. After surgery, the patient was monitored for active recovery and stable vital signs. Currently, the patient's health condition is stable and he was discharged after 15 days of treatment and outpatient follow-up as prescribed by the doctor.
MSc. Dr. CKII Tran Phuoc Hoa - Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery - Thoracic Surgery - Resuscitation after heart surgery informed that the separation of type A major arteries is a condition in which the inner layer of the vessel wall is torn, causing blood to flow between layers, causing blockage of blood vessel branches that nourish the heart, brain and internal organs. If not treated early, the patient can die quickly.
