On September 27, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) of Quang Binh province announced that it had just recorded a case of imported malaria in the area.
Previously, on September 24, patient N.V.C (born in 1993, residing in Hung Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province) was taken by his family to the Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital with symptoms of fever, chills, sweating, headache and dry cough.
Receiving information from the hospital about symptoms related to malaria cases, CDC Quang Binh came to investigate the epidemic and conduct tests.
Test results showed that patient C had malaria. After a period of monitoring and treatment, the patient's health is gradually stabilizing.
According to the patient's family, before the onset of the disease, the patient spent nearly half a month in the jungle in Thailand (from August 17 to 31, 2024). When he returned home, in early September, the above symptoms appeared.
Quang Binh CDC has directed Bo Trach District Health Center to monitor cases in close contact with the patient.
In particular, members of the household and the area surrounding the patient's house within 30 days from the date the patient developed the disease must proactively and promptly handle the situation to prevent the disease from spreading in the community.
Doctor Huynh Cong Hung - Head of the Department of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Examination and Treatment and Prevention of Infectious Diseases, CDC Quang Binh said that malaria is an infectious disease caused by the Plasmodium parasite and transmitted by Anopheles mosquitoes from sick people (people with malaria parasites) to healthy people.
Anyone can get malaria if they live or travel to mountainous areas where malaria is prevalent and are bitten by Anopheles mosquitoes. Therefore, medical facilities as well as people need to be vigilant and not be negligent or subjective in preventing and fighting malaria.
