Increase vaccination, do not be negligent with measles

HCMC - Recorded at a children's hospital in the city, many children with measles have been hospitalized for treatment without being vaccinated against measles.

Recorded at Children's Hospital 1, many children hospitalized for measles treatment have not been vaccinated against this disease. There are 3 main reasons why children are hospitalized for measles are children who have not been vaccinated, children who are not old enough to be vaccinated but have been infected by others and parents who do not vaccinate their children.

Typically, a 14-year-old child (residing in Ben Tre) was hospitalized for measles treatment with complications of enteritis. Through investigation, this child has not been vaccinated against measles due to his busy family.

According to Dr. Du Tuan Quy - Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases - Neurology, Children's Hospital 1, this place is treating about 75 inpatient measles cases, of which, there are about 10 cases with severe ventilator- breastfeeding, CPAP. Up to 90% of pediatric patients were transferred from provinces such as Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Ben Tre... Notably, almost all hospitalizations have complications, most commonly pneumonia, accounting for nearly 80% of cases.

The current measles epidemic not only puts pressure on medical facilities but also directly affects people's lives. Many families have to spend a lot of time and money to take care of their sick children, while only one dose of vaccine can prevent this disease. Therefore, measles vaccination for children is becoming more urgent than ever.

"In the fight against the epidemic, each individual plays an important role. Getting vaccinated not only protects yourself but also protects the community, especially children and people at high risk" - Dr. Quy emphasized.
