Tet food: Danger warnings from foods that every household has

Doctors warn that many patients are infected with parasitic diseases due to unhygienic eating, eating raw food... especially during Tet.

Infected with tapeworms again, thought to be stroke, stroke

During Tet days, the habit of using unsafe food, using raw, uncooked foods such as blood pudding, fermented pork roll, fermented pork roll, raw vegetables... can cause dangerous parasitic infections.

Mr. N.V.S (54 years old, in Thai Nguyen) came to Dang Van Ngu Hospital (under the National Institute of Malariology - Parasitology - Entomology) in a state of headache, dizziness, left hemiplegia, undergoing tests and brain resonance imaging.

As a result, Mr. S was diagnosed with swine tapeworm larvae in the brain and serum tested positive for eel worms. The patient was prescribed adult tapeworm removal, using specific disease treatment drugs to reduce the development of larvae and accompanying clinical symptoms.

Mr. S said that he often eats raw vegetables, fermented pork roll, fermented pork roll. Occasionally he also eats blood pudding and raw raw pork. When headaches and hemiplegia appeared, he thought he had a stroke.

At the hospital, doctors said that symptoms of swine tapeworm larvae infection and eel worm infection will make many people mistakenly believe that they have had an accident or stroke. If not treated promptly, patients may become hemiplegia and have other sequelae.

According to Dr. Hoang Dinh Canh, Director of the National Institute of Malariology - Parasitology - Entomology, parasitic diseases develop silently in the human body, lasting for many years, possibly up to 10 years, even 20 years.

Many patients have been defecating for dozens of years but have not seen any unusual signs in their bodies, so they consider it normal and do not go for examination. Until their bodies are weak and they have many convulsions, they go to the hospital, then parasites may have caused brain damage.

Many patients have gone for examinations at many medical facilities, from hospitals, private clinics to public hospitals in localities and centrally, but have not diagnosed the disease, losing the "golden time" for treatment.

Even, many people think they have epilepsy, stroke, mental illness, so they have been treated at mental hospitals for many years. When they get to specialized hospitals to treat parasitic diseases, they are already in a relatively late stage, parasites have attacked the brain and have to suffer many lifelong sequelae such as: Vision loss, convulsions...

Always ensure to eat cooked food and drink boiled water, especially during Tet days.

Dr. Tran Huy Tho, Standing Deputy Director of Dang Van Ngu Hospital, further noted that brain tapeworms also affect patients, causing memory decline. There are cases admitted to the hospital in a state of memory loss, forgetfulness.

Even, many patients are hospitalized in a condition where they have an average of 5 to 6 whole-body seizures a day. These seizures can appear without warning and are very dangerous, especially when patients participate in traffic.

Sharing about the causes of infection with pig tapeworm larvae and earthworms, according to Dr. Tran Huy Tho, it is due to unhygienic eating, eating raw and uncooked foods such as blood pudding, fermented pork roll, fermented pork roll, raw vegetables... These are common dishes during Tet, people should pay close attention to.

According to doctors, in mountainous areas, the situation of free-range pig farming is still common. In pig waste, there may be tapeworm eggs. When people or animals eat vegetables, grass, and food containing tapeworm eggs, there is a risk of being infected with pig tapeworms.

Dr. Tran Huy Tho also said that all types of blood pudding, even pig, goat, duck blood pudding... are actually raw blood and all contain many dangerous pathogens, from diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, to streptococcus, worms... Blood pudding from pigs raised by families still has a high risk of fluke infection. Even in the process of cutting blood, unsanitary and unsafe food processing still leads to bacteria in the skin and fur of animals easily entering the blood...

To prevent worm disease, according to the recommendations of medical experts, it is necessary to deworm periodically every 6 months in both children and adults. The use of deworming drugs must comply with the instructions of the doctor.

Usually, eggs and tapeworm larvae will die when they are at a temperature above 75 degrees Celsius for 5 minutes or boiled continuously at 100 degrees Celsius for 2 minutes. Therefore, people need to follow the rule of "eat cooked, drink boiled". Eat cooked foods, do not eat raw foods from pig such as fermented pork roll, rare pork, blood pudding...

In addition, eating unhygienic raw vegetables also poses a risk of contracting swine tapeworm disease. In particular, consumers need to be careful before processing food. Do not use diseased pork to process food. Avoid buying pork, vegetables, and fruits of unknown origin.

Along with that, people need to pay attention to keeping personal hygiene clean; wear shoes, sandals, gloves when exposed to damp soil; keep the surrounding living environment clean... When suspected of parasitic infection, it is necessary to go to specialized parasitic disease facilities for examination and timely treatment.
