For many years, the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Traditional Medicine has had an undeniable objective reality that the infrastructure at the current construction site no longer meets development requirements. Most of the existing items are level IV projects built a long time ago, now seriously degraded.
To maintain operations, the unit must take advantage of temporary and expanded buildings as departments, places for decocting and cooking medicine; mechanical and electrical technical systems are patched up, not only potentially posing a risk of fire and explosion safety but also seriously limiting the application of modern extraction and preparation technologies. These limitations in space and function are becoming a major barrier to the Institute's development aspirations.
Therefore, investing in the new construction of the Center for Research and Application of Traditional Medicine - Traditional Medicine is an inherent, urgent and strategic requirement. The project is not simply replacing an old building with a new building, but is building a technological heart with the unique characteristics of the traditional medicine industry, which is to modernize the closed process.
According to BS CKII Ho Van Han - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy, the commencement of the project on the occasion of the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam is of special significance, showing the consistency in the policy of developing comprehensive healthcare, applying science and technology and closely combining traditional medicine with modern medicine.
BS CKII Ho Van Han added that in the context of Ho Chi Minh City with a population of more than 14 million people, the need for healthcare is increasingly high and specialized, traditional medicine cannot stand outside the scientific development process but needs to be modernized, standardized and deeply integrated to serve people effectively, safely and sustainably.
Ms. Tran Minh Phuong - Director of Project 1 Management Board, representative of the investor - said that, unlike general hospitals, the project is specially designed to serve a series of specific functions, from raw medicinal material receiving areas, cold storage systems, liquid high storage warehouses, waiting for settlement, to extraction rooms, vacuum condensation, misting to create granules and modern packaging, which are synchronized with in-depth technical expertise. The mechanical and electrical system is completely newly invested, ensuring safe operation for industrial equipment such as boilers, compressors, central pumps and specialized medical wastewater treatment systems.
Parallel to the production area is a treatment space imbued with traditional medicine such as a therapeutic exercise area, massage, acupressure, medicine wrap, foot massage, arranged in a standardized and professional environment.
With a scale of 1 basement and 7 above-ground floors, total floor area of more than 16,000 m2, expected to be completed in 2027, this project is the solution to the problem of improving the research and production capacity of traditional medicine - Eastern medicine in Ho Chi Minh City.
